New talented Postdoc in the lab.
From beginning of April the lab is lucky to host two talented posdocs:
Antony Vincent, who just received his Ph.D. from U. Laval (Steve Charettes) and has a enormous job to decipher the complex evolution of t he Leptospira genus in collaboration with the Réseau International des Institut Pasteur (RIIP) and specifically with the Mathieu Picardeau Lab in IP Paris.
Ahmed Khairalla a lecturer at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, in the Faculty of Pharmacy, Beni-Suef University, Egypt, who received a fellowship from the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Research. Ahmed will help the lab in the functional understanding of an enigmatic small protein from pathogenic Neisseria.
New lab Members
In the next few weeks several student/postdoc will join the lab:
Fiona Volpe (M1) will work on gene regulation in enterobacteria
Zeneba Hamid Adoum (M2) will work on a tiny protein in Neisseria meningitidis and Philippe Gauvin Vallée (M. Sc.) will work in the characterization of the in-vitro activity of this protein.

INRS-Institut Armand Frappier nouvelle vidéo promotionnelle.
Situé au cœur de la Cité de la Biotech de Laval, tout près de Montréal, ce centre de recherche reconnu pour son excellence compte 50 équipes dont 30 en infectiologie et immunologie, ce qui en fait un pôle d’expertise en la matière. Poursuivant la mission du Dr Armand Frappier, grand infectiologue du vingtième siècle, les chercheurs se penchent sur un grand nombre de pathogènes et sur les mécanismes de l’immunité dans une approche de synergie de disciplines scientifiques. Milieu de vie stimulant, les professeurs et les quelque deux cents étudiants y travaillent dans un fort esprit de collaboration. Les professeurs se font un devoir d’être disponibles et attentifs à leurs équipes, une proximité rare dans le milieu.
Trois programmes de maîtrise et deux programmes de doctorat sont offerts sur place. Tous les détails sont sur le site Web http://www.iaf.inrs.ca. Branché sur le monde, l’INRS–Institut Armand-Frappier accueille actuellement des étudiants en provenance de 26 pays. Il est intégré à cinq réseaux de recherche internationaux, dont le Réseau international des Instituts Pasteur.

Un prix Mobilité d’une valeur de 2500 € a été remis à Martin CHENAL, pour son échange dans le cadre de son Master 2 entre l’Université de Clermont-Auvergne et l’Institut Armand FRAPPIER de Laval (Canada) par l’organisme CLARA.
Les membres de l’équipe CLARA et de l’UCA seront présents Lundi 16 Octobre à l’IAF.

The world is running out of antibiotics, WHO report confirms
20 September 2017 | Geneva – A report, Antibacterial agents in clinical development – an analysis of the antibacterial clinical development pipeline, including tuberculosis, launched today by WHO shows a serious lack of new antibiotics under development to combat the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance.

The lab. welcome Asmâa Agoussar and Sandra Ortiz-Lopez that will both be trained in bacterial genomics.

Really nice day listening excellent presentations by DUT students from Université Clermont Auvergne. This with Dr. Mahchid Bambdad and Dr. Emannuelle Mounetou with whom we have also implemented a new INRS/UCA co-diploma awarding Master/M.Sc. in Life Science.
